Hansi Flick is delighted with the level of Lamine Yamal's performances, but he still wants to see the Barcelona superstar click through more gears.

Yamal took his tally of LaLiga goals for the season to nine as he opened the scoring in Barca's 3-1 win over Elche on Saturday.

The Blaugrana were pegged back by Alvaro Rodriguez, but goals from Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford got the job done.

Barca put up a whopping 6.24 expected goals (xG), as Yamal became the first teenager to create eight chances in a single LaLiga game on record (since 2003-04).

Yamal has now scored 23 goals in 91 LaLiga appearances, equalling the most by a player under the age of 19 in Europe's top five leagues in the 21st century (Kylian Mbappe, 23 goals in 54 appearances).

"He's important for the team and the club," Flick said of Yamal.

"He's also young enough to improve and take his game to the next level. He was very important for the team.

"I usually prefer to talk about the team, but it's important that he's playing at this level.

"He creates space for us, he creates chances. I'm happy."

Frenkie de Jong, meanwhile, impressed at the heart of Barca's midfield, crafting five chances, including assisting Torres' goal.

De Jong also led Barca for passes (60) and accurate passes (55), while completing all nine of his passes in the final third.

"I say the same thing as I did about Lamine," Flick said of the Dutchman.

"He played at a fantastic level, especially in the second half."
