Mike Maignan has put an end to rumours that he could leave AC Milan on a free transfer at the end of the season, signing a new deal with the Rossoneri to run until 2031.

Maignan has emerged as a key player for Milan since his arrival from Lille in 2021, being named club captain in October 2024.

He helped the club win their 19th Scudetto under Stefano Pioli in 2021-22, also lifting the Supercoppa Italiana in 2024.

But with his previous contract due to expire in June this year, the 30-year-old had been expected to leave San Siro. 

Chelsea were the club credited with the most serious interest in the Frenchman, having failed in an attempt to sign him on the eve of the Club World Cup last year. 

But Maignan will remain in Italy for the long term after Milan confirmed his contract renewal, saying in a statement: "AC Milan and Mike Maignan are now further cementing their bond, with the shared aim of continuing to write new chapters in the club's history together."

Maignan has made 21 appearances in Serie A this season, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 17 goals. 

His save percentage of 77% is the fourth-best among goalkeepers to make 20 appearances or more in the 2025-26 season, behind Mile Svilar (83.3%), Jean Butez (78.7%) and Ivan Provedel (78.2%).
