Nine-year NBA veteran and former Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon announced his retirement on Wednesday, ending his decorated but injury-hampered career.
Brogdon, 32, had signed a deal with the New York Knicks but instead announced his retirement a week before the start of the 2025-26 season.
Brogdon played last season for the Washington Wizards but was limited to just 24 games due to a variety of injuries.
“Today, I officially begin my transition out of my basketball career,” Brogdon said in a statement. “I have proudly given my mind, body and spirit to the game over the last few decades. With the many sacrifices it took to get here, I have received many rewards.
“I am deeply grateful to have arrived to this point on my own terms and now to be able to reap the benefits of my career with my family and friends. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all who have had a place in my journey.”
A second-round pick out of Virginia by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2016, Brogdon was named to the All-Rookie First Team in 2017.
After three seasons with Milwaukee, Brogdon was traded to the Indiana Pacers, with whom he enjoyed his best statistical seasons. In 2020-21, he recorded career highs by averaging 21.2 points and 5.3 rebounds.
Brogdon was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 2022-23 season, when he averaged 14.9 points and shot 44.4% from 3-point range with the Boston Celtics.
In 463 career games, Brogdon averaged 15.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists while shooting 46.3% from the field and 38.8% from 3-point range.
