The Sacramento Kings and nine-time NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook have agreed to a contract, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.

The 2017 league MVP had been one of the last big-name free agents who remained unsigned with the start of the 2025-26 season less than a week away.

Westbrook signed a one-year contract with the Kings for the veteran’s minimum salary of $3.6million, ESPN reported.

The No. 4 overall pick in 2008, Westbrook is set to start his 18th NBA season.

Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists with the Denver Nuggets last season in 75 games.

Westbrook joins a Kings team that has regressed in each of the last two seasons after breaking their infamous playoff drought with a 48-win campaign in 2022-23.

Westbrook will add depth to a backcourt that features Dennis Schröder, Zach LaVine and Malik Monk, with veterans Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Dario Saric in the frontcourt.

Sacramento will be the seventh franchise Westbrook has played for after playing his first 11 seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In 1,237 career games, Westbrook has averaged 21.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists.

The Kings’ upcoming season already took a hit when the team confirmed last weekend that forward and former No. 4 overall pick Keegan Murray will miss the first month due to a torn thumb ligament.
