Dallas Mavericks fans finally got their wish.
The Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrison on Tuesday, nine months after he dealt the face of the franchise in a blockbuster trade that has been highly criticised.
To fill his position, the team has appointed Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi as co-interim general managers.
"This decision reflects our continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organisation, one that delivers for our players, our partners, and most importantly, our fans," Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont said in a statement.

The decision to fire Harrison comes with Dallas off to a sluggish 3-8 start to the 2025-26 season, though Harrison, who had been hired in 2021, had been under fire ever since he traded superstar and fan favourite Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February, less than a year after Dončić led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals.
Following the Dončić trade for Anthony Davis, Dallas' season fell apart with Kyrie Irving tearing his ACL and Davis dealing with an adductor strain. The team inevitably struggled down the stretch to finish 39-43 and lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-In Tournament, as fans clamoured for Harrison to be fired.
The Mavericks' luck then appeared to turn, however, by winning the draft lottery. The team selected the overwhelming top prospect in Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick, giving the fanbase renewed hope.
Flagg, however, is off to an uneven start to his rookie season, and with Irving still recovering from the ACL tear and Davis dealing with yet another injury, the Mavericks are struggling mightily offensively, ranking last in the NBA in scoring (107.2 points per game) and 3-point shooting (29.5 per cent).
With the team off to a miserable start, Mavericks fans grew louder in their desire for Harrison to be fired, and the organisation finally decided to part ways with the beleaguered GM.
