PSV 3-0 Feyenoord: First-half blitz sends leaders 17 points clear

PSV continued their march towards the Eredivisie title after a thumping 3-0 victory over second-placed Feyenoord on Sunday.

Robin van Persie's side had no answer to a blistering start at Philips Stadion, where the hosts raced into a 3-0 lead inside 17 chaotic minutes to move 17 points clear at the league summit.

Armando Obispo headed home the opener with just 10 minutes on the clock, stooping to finish past Timon Wellenreuther from Joey Veerman's right-sided cross.

Matters worsened for an insipid Feyenoord three minutes later when Wellenreuther only half-cleared an attempted punch, with Guus Til on hand to tap in his 12th league goal this campaign.

And Ismael Saibari put PSV completely out of sight four minutes later, converting into an empty net after Paul Wanner's selfless offload following some sloppy play at the back from the visitors.

A one-sided contest prompted Feyenoord to respond with a double change at half-time, though PSV continued to dominate as Til and Couhaib Driouech flashed further chances wide.

Goncalo Borges' straight red card for a woeful tackle on Driouech with six minutes remaining compounded Feyenoord's misery as PSV moved one step closer to the title with 13 league games remaining.

Data Debrief: Super Saibari

A Saibari hat-trick saw PSV past Feyenoord with a 3-2 win in the reverse meeting back in October, and the Morocco midfielder found further joy here.

With a routine strike in the first half, Saibari became only the second player to score four goals in a single Eredivisie season for PSV against Feyenoord, after Brazilian great Romario in 1990-91.

Indeed, Saibari's goal also rubbed further salt into Van Persie's wounds, leaving Feyenoord three goals behind after 17 minutes – their fastest 3-0 deficit ever in an Eredivisie match.

And Peter Bosz will have been delighted with his side's work, having seen PSV accumulate 1.95 expected goals (xG) to their visitors' measly 0.35.
