Sesko revels in 'dream' Man Utd winner to settle Fulham thriller

A relieved Benjamin Sesko was delighted to live out his dream with a last-gasp winner for Manchester United against Fulham on Sunday.

Michael Carrick's side made it three wins in as many Premier League games on Sunday, though they were made to sweat after Raul Jimenez's penalty and a stunning Kevin strike dragged Fulham level late on.

Casemiro had earlier sent United ahead before he teed up Matheus Cunha in the second half, but United's good work was almost undone by defensive lapses at Old Trafford.

The Slovenian striker could have settled the contest earlier, heading against the woodwork just moments after his second-half introduction with United 2-0 up, but still revelled in his 94th-minute winner after being teed up by Bruno Fernandes' second assist of the match.

"That was unbelievable. Scoring at home and scoring the winner is unbelievable," Sesko told Sky Sports shortly after the full-time whistle.

"I've been dreaming about that and dreaming that I can do that. We all know as a team how important these results are.

"We are on a really great run right now, and we are just hoping that we can continue to work hard like that to win games. I'm really happy that I could help the team out. We can continue our streak now."

United have won four of their five Premier League games with Carrick in charge (D1), including his first spell in 2021.

Carrick is only the third manager to win four or more of his first five league matches in charge of the club, after Matt Busby in 1946 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019 (both five).

And Sesko believes Carrick's influence is clear to see as United rallied up to fourth with their late winner, backing up eye-catching wins at home to Manchester City and on the road at leaders Arsenal last time out.

"It's true, he has said these things many times to the team," Sesko said, referencing Carrick's message to play with freedom. "That's exactly what we are doing.

"But it's not just that, you can see how much we work hard for each other without the ball, and that also contributes to good results in the end. The work rate is definitely different. Everyone is on point and covering their spaces. In the end, that's what counts.

"The aim is to continue like this. We want to focus on our work and what we have to do. We have worked hard like we are and focus on every moment. All of this is going to lead to great results."

Marco Silva was left feeling aggrieved with Casemiro's opener, which came from a Fernandes free-kick after United saw a penalty overturned by the VAR for Jorge Cuenca's tug on Cunha outside the area.

"The penalty was given for the tackle. After, because the decision was so bad, they found a different foul," the Fulham boss said on Sky Sports as he bemoaned the VAR decision.

"I feel my players, I feel our fans, but we have to respect the people in charge. I know why the penalty was given. VAR went in a completely different direction to find something to find a free-kick that was not the reason why the penalty was given."

Only Wolves (nine), Brentford and Burnley (eight each) have lost more away games in the Premier League this season than Fulham's seven, but Silva was still pleased with his side's performance.

"Top performance from ourselves. In the second half, our team was better. The way we played and controlled the ball, they wanted to press us high, but we never let them," he continued.

"They scored when we switched off, but we kept going and scored a goal that was disallowed [through Cuenca]. It is what it is. Difficult, but we have to accept it.

"The story of the game started with a horrendous, terrible decision from [referee] John Brooks with the penalty he gave. Horrendous decision from that moment, big, big mistake.

"We have to take all this frustration to win the next one."
