Juventus 2-5 Manchester City: Haaland nets milestone goal to seal top spot

Manchester City sealed top spot in Group G after thrashing Juventus 5-2 at the Club World Cup on Friday.

Both teams came into the contest with maximum points, but it was Pep Guardiola's side who came out on top as they ran riot at the Camping World Stadium.

Jeremey Doku saw his ninth-minute opener quickly cancelled out by Teun Koopmeiners, who capitalised on a mistake by Ederson when trying to play out from the back.

City restored their lead in the 26th minute through Pierre Kalulu's comical own-goal, with substitute Erling Haaland bundling home his team's third seven minutes after half-time.

Phil Foden then marked his introduction with a goal three minutes after entering the action, before Savinho's stunning strike from distance all but sealed the victory.

Juventus netted a late consolation thanks to Dusan Vlahovic, but it mattered little as City cruised to victory, setting up a clash with the runners-up of Group H in the next round, which will either be Real Madrid or RB Salzburg.

In the other group fixture taking place, Al Ain picked up their first win of the tournament after coming from behind to beat Wydad AC 2-1.

Cassius Mailula's early strike had given Wydad the lead, but goals either side of half-time from captain Kodjo Laba and Alejandro Romero completed the comeback.

Data Debrief: Haaland's milestone moment keeps Guardiola perfect

Guardiola has enjoyed major success at the Club World Cup, with his latest victory seeing him maintain his 100% record in the competition (W11 D0 D0, including previous formats). The Spaniard's team have also outscored their opponents 38-4 in those matches.

And his team were worthy of their win, ending the contest with an expected goals (xG) total of 3.81 to Juventus' measly 0.92, as Haaland reached yet another milestone in his mercurial career.

Although his 52nd-minute finish won't be remembered as he bundled home Matheus Nunes' centre, it brought up his 300th goal across his top flight and international career, and you feel the Norwegian will only add to that in this competition.
