De Zerbi feels 'nothing' after Tottenham's move out of relegation zone

Roberto De Zerbi says he felt "nothing" after Tottenham moved out of the relegation zone, reminding everyone that there are still games left to play.

Spurs beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday, with goals from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison in the first half setting them on their way to all three points.

Though Emiliano Buendia flicked in a late header for a beleaguered Villa side, it was not enough to stop Spurs from winning back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since the opening two matchdays of the season.

Spurs' 2-0 lead after 25 minutes was the earliest they had scored twice in a Premier League match since December 2024 against Southampton (4-0 after 25 minutes).

De Zerbi's side were particularly impressive before the break, having eight attempts, with four of those on target and one hitting the post, while also limiting Villa to no attempts on goal and one touch in the opposition box.

And though the Italian head coach was impressed with how Spurs dealt with Villa, he was quick to play down the magnitude of the win that moved his side above West Ham into 17th.

"We played against Aston Villa, they are a very good team," De Zerbi told TNT Sports.

"A lot of very good players, a great manager, but we played very well for 60 minutes without the ball and with the ball.

"We suffered with [Ollie] Watkins and [Emiliano] Buendia and conceded a goal. That was the only bad thing we did on the pitch. I'm pleased with this performance from my players. I know how much they have suffered this season.

"The high pressure is mentality and then in possession. We played very well when we had to attack the space or to shoot. I love playing football. My job is to help them and show what they are capable of."

Asked how he felt about moving out of the bottom three and one point clear of West Ham, De Zerbi added: "Nothing because the season is not finished yet.

"We have to play another three games starting on Monday night [May 11] with Leeds [United]. They are playing very well. We can't forget what the situation was before Wolves.

"It was a very sad situation, and these memories have to stay in our heads."

Gallagher scored his first goal for Spurs to get them off the mark at Villa Park, with his last two Premier League goals on the road coming at that stadium – also netting in April 2024 for Chelsea.

It was also his first goal in the English top-flight since May 2024, against West Ham.

"We're really happy with the performance and the three points," he told TNT Sports. "It's been a perfect night, but hopefully it's just the start.

"We want to carry it on for the last few games of the season.

"I'm really happy with my first goal. It's always a relief to get the first goal, and hopefully a few more can come now.

"I can't speak highly enough of [De Zerbi]. He's been so good. Every player in the squad has taken to him; he makes you feel so good. He brings the best out of you."
