The Oklahoma City Thunder and All-NBA forward Jalen Williams have agreed to a five-year, maximum contract extension that could be worth up to $287million, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.
Williams can receive the maximum amount of money if he reaches certain escalators, such as making another All-NBA team or winning MVP, through the Derrick Rose Rule.
While the base figures of the contract have not been released, the Orlando Magic’s Paolo Banchero signed a similar maximum rookie extension this offseason that will guarantee him $239million over five seasons.
Williams’ new deal is the latest in a string of long-term extensions for the reigning NBA champions as they seek to secure their foundation into the future.
The Thunder signed Chet Holmgren to a five-year extension worth up to $250million on Wednesday, and league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander signed a four-year supermax extension worth $285million on July 1.
Once the ink has dried, OKC’s young trio will be under contract together through the 2030-31 season.
After becoming the second-youngest team in NBA history to win a title, the Thunder now have long-term commitments from their Big 3 of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (26), Williams (24) and Chet Holmgren (23) to play together through the rest of the decade as they enter their primes. https://t.co/trlVtrcCFq

News of Williams’ extension comes just days after he released a 15-minute-long video on YouTube, detailing his struggle to play throughout the Thunder’s title run with a torn ligament in his right wrist.
Williams said he received nearly 30 pain-killing injections to take the floor during the postseason, and he has since had surgery to repair the wrist.
Despite the injury, Williams played in all 23 of Oklahoma City’s playoff games, averaging 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists. His 40 points in Game 5 of the NBA Finals were among the iconic performances of the Thunder’s run to a championship.
A first-time All-Star, Williams averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists last season, earning him All-NBA Third Team honours.
