The Phoenix Suns have another new head coach, hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott after the franchise missed the play-offs this season for the first time since 2020.

It’s the first NBA head coaching job for the 40-year-old Ott, who becomes Phoenix’s fourth head coach in the last four seasons.

The Suns went 36-46 this season under Mike Budenholzer for their first sub-.500 and non-play-off campaign since going 34-39 in 2019-20 in their first season with Monty Williams on the sidelines.

Williams got Phoenix to the NBA Finals the following season, but the team was eliminated in the second round of the play-offs in each of the next two campaigns, leading to the Suns making a change.

Frank Vogel took over in 2023-24 and led Phoenix to a 49-43 record before being swept in the first round of the post-season and subsequently getting fired.

The Suns then turned to Budenholzer, who beat Phoenix in six games in the 2021 NBA Finals while coaching the Milwaukee Bucks.

Now, Ott steps in after serving as an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets (2016-22), Los Angeles Lakers (2022-24) and last season with the Cavaliers, who led the Eastern Conference with a 64-18 record.

Ott may be taking over a roster that won’t have Kevin Durant on it any more.

Multiple reports are saying Phoenix is looking to trade the 15-time NBA All-Star after finding little success with Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal playing together.
