Porto part company with Anselmi after dismal Club World Cup campaign

Porto have parted company with head coach Martin Anselmi following their poor Club World Cup campaign.

Anselmi, who replaced Vitor Bruno in January, won just 10 of his 21 matches at the helm (D6 L5), culminating at the ongoing tournament in the United States.

Porto took just two points from their three group games at the Club World Cup, finishing third behind Palmeiras and Inter Miami in Group A.

Indeed, of all the European teams taking part, Anselmi's team took the fewest points, and they were one of two UEFA sides, along with Atletico Madrid, to exit at the first stage.

The Argentine guided Porto to third in the Primeira Liga in 2024-25, finishing 11 points behind champions Sporting CP, who clinched their 21st top-flight title.

It has been reported that the Portuguese giants have identified Francesco Farioli, who recently left Ajax, as their top target to replace Anselmi.

Farioli oversaw a second-placed finish in the Eredivisie, losing out on the title by a point to PSV Eindhoven after a string of poor results towards the end of the campaign.
