The Boston Celtics remained active on Tuesday, taking part in a three-team trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks, Terance Mann and Atlanta’s No. 22 pick to the Brooklyn Nets, and Georges Niang and a second rounder to the Celtics, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

On Monday, the Celtics acquired Anfernee Simons and two second-round draft picks from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for veteran guard Jrue Holiday. The moves will save Boston a projected $180 million in tax penalties.

Porzingis averaged 19.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in 41 regular-season games for Boston last season and dealt with a lingering illness during the postseason that limited his availability. He was held to 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds in 11 playoff games.

Niang averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 rebounds for the Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers last season, his ninth in the NBA. Though Niang shot 39.9 percent from 3-point range last season, this was more of a financial move by the Celtics, who were facing a historic tax bill and are making moves in the wake of Jayson Tatum’s Achilles tear in the second round of the playoffs.

Assuming he’s healthy, Porzingis should fit in nicely with Atlanta’s frontcourt alongside Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu and last year’s No. 1 overall pick Zachharie Risacher.  

The trade gives Brooklyn five selections in Wednesday’s first round of the draft. The Nets have picks No. 8, 19, 22, 26 and 27.
