Kayla McBride made 10 3-pointers to set a WNBA single-game record and had a career-high 43 points to help the league-leading Minnesota Lynx become the first team to secure a play-off berth with a 103-90 win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday.

McBride went 10 of 14 from beyond the arc and shot 16 of 21 overall from the field as Minnesota (27-7) won for the 12th time in 13 games.

Rookie Olivia Miles added five 3s and Napheesa Collier made three shots from deep to give the Lynx a franchise-record 18 3-pointers.

Miles finished with 20 points and 13 assists, and Collier had 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Dallas (19-14) played without No. 1 overall draft pick Azzi Fudd (knee) for the second straight game and lost All-Star center Jessica Shepard in the first quarter due to an ankle injury.

Paige Bueckers led the Wings with 23 points and eight assists, but it wasn’t enough as Dallas suffered its fifth loss in six games.

Red-hot Valkyries hold off Sparks

The Golden State Valkyries fought off a late comeback and held on to beat the Los Angeles Sparks 84-78 for their fourth straight win.

The second-place Valkyries (23-9) led by 19 points early in the fourth quarter before the Sparks (12-19) went on a 26-8 run to pull within one with 1:38 left in the game.

Golden State, though, regrouped and scored seven unanswered points to seal its 13th win in 15 games.

Cecilia Zandalasini had 15 points on five 3-pointers and added seven rebounds for the Valkyries, who remained three games behind the WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx.

Los Angeles failed in its attempt to win two in a row for the first time since July 8-10 and fell to 5-13 in its last 18 games.

Nneka Ogwumike had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Erica Wheeler scored 15 to go with four assists for the Sparks.

Liberty rout short-handed Aces

Marine Johannes poured in a career-high 27 points with seven 3-pointers and New York took full advantage of facing a Las Vegas team on little rest, rolling to a 111-71 victory over a depleted Aces’ line-up.

Las Vegas (22-11) played without two-time reigning league MVP A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray, as coach Becky Hammon opted to rest her three leading scorers with the Aces playing the second half of a back-to-back.

Wilson (26.3), Young (18.1) and Gray (12.6) average 57 points per game, and their replacements in the starting line-up – Brianna Turner, Dana Evans and Jewell Loyd – combined for eight points.

The Liberty (20-13) won their fourth straight and for the seventh time in eight games while emptying their bench in the one-sided contest.

Jonquel Jones scored all 15 of her points in the first half while Breanna Stewart and Han Xu added 14 apiece for New York, which had 10 players see at least 17 minutes of action.

Ta’Niya Latson led the Aces with 20 points and fellow reserve Mai Yamamoto scored 16 as both rookies set career highs.

Mystics cruise to seventh straight win

Shakira Austin and Sonia Citron scored 19 points each as the Washington Mystics defeated the Phoenix Mercury 95-75 to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Washington (19-12) climbed into fifth place in the WNBA and is one victory away from matching a franchise-record eight-game run set in 2018.

Austin added 11 rebounds, Citron hit five 3-pointers and contributed six assists, Michaela Onyenwere and Cotie McMahon scored 13 apiece, and Kiki Iriafen had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Mystics.

Phoenix (12-22) suffered its third straight loss and fourth in five games after getting outscored 52-31 in the second and third quarters combined.

Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with 15 points, Noemie Brochant scored 13 off the bench, and Alyssa Thomas had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
