The surging Minnesota Lynx took over sole possession of the top spot in the WNBA standings on Friday as Nia Coffey scored 20 points in a 79-58 win over the struggling Chicago Sky.

Coffey added eight rebounds, Olivia Miles contributed 17 points, six boards and six assists, and Natasha Howard had 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals in Minnesota’s fourth consecutive victory.

The Lynx, who reached the WNBA finals in 2024, improved to 6-2 on the young season while Chicago (3-5) lost for the fourth straight time.

Kamilla Cardosa had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Skylar Diggins also scored 12 as the Sky shot just 20 of 70 (28.6 per cent) from the field and 5 of 30 (16.7%) from three-point range.

Coffey made more threes than the entire Sky team, going 6 of 9 from beyond the arc, as the Lynx pushed their road record to 4-0 and Chicago fell to 0-4 at home.

Dream 86, Fire 66

The Atlanta Dream (5-2) blew past expansion Portland (5-4) in the fourth quarter to snap the Fire’s three-game win streak.

Atlanta took a six-point lead after three before outscoring Portland 27-13 in the final quarter.

Angel Reese had a big game for Atlanta with 18 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, Rhyne Howard posted 14 points, six steals and four assists, Naz Hillmon also scored 14 with seven rebounds, five steals and four assists, and Allisha Gray added 13 points and three steals.

The Dream had 16 steals compared to four for the Fire, who were led by reserve Sarah Ashlee Barker’s 14 points.

Sparks 92, Mystics 87

Nneka Ogwumike passed Lisa Leslie for sixth place on the WNBA’s career rebounding list with 3,312 as the Los Angeles Sparks (4-3) beat the Washington Mystics (3-4).

Ogwumike finished with 20 points and 11 boards, and Erica Wheeler scored 21 to go along with eight assists in the Sparks' third straight win.

Shakira Austin led Washington with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Sonia Citron had 21 points and eight assists.

Liberty 75, Mercury 68

The New York Liberty (5-4) used a 13-5 spurt spanning the third and fourth quarters to hand the Phoenix Mercury (2-7) their fifth loss in a row.

New York got 16 points, six rebounds and six assists from rookie Pauline Astier and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton came off the bench to score 13 points in 15 minutes.

Kahleah Copper scored a team-high 16 points for Phoenix, and Alyssa Thomas had 15 points, eight assists and three steals.
