Tottenham boss Martin Ho has described the club as a "sleeping giant" in women's football, having penned a new long-term contract ahead of Saturday's derby clash with Arsenal.

Spurs sit fifth in the Women's Super League ahead of their showdown with their neighbours, six points behind the Gunners, albeit having played two additional games.

They are on course to match their best-ever WSL finish (fifth in 2021-22) and only need four points from as many games to set a new club-record points tally in the competition.

Amid a positive campaign, the club announced on Friday that Ho – who only arrived from Norwegian side Brann last July – had been handed a new long-term deal.

Ho, a former assistant coach at Manchester United, is now looking to continue building on the success of their 2025-26 season.

"They wanted to make sure I'm here for the longer term, to work on this project and take it forward," he told Sky Sports after the news of his extension was announced. 

"They felt I was the person that could help them achieve what they want to achieve, which is nice to hear as a coach.

"Then you want to make sure that you can align on a lot of things, and we align on absolutely everything. I absolutely love the staff and players I work with.

"We have a lot going for us here, and we're a bit of a sleeping giant in women's football. It just needs that little bit of direction and polishing, and we can really take big steps."

Ho will now hope to celebrate his fresh terms with a statement result against Arsenal, though that could prove a tough act as the Gunners have won nine of their 12 North London derbies in the WSL (D2 L1), racking up an aggregate score of 33-4.

Spurs are also without a goal in their last four league games against Arsenal, their longest run without a goal against any other team in the WSL.

Asked how Spurs would go about attempting to topple their rivals, Ho said: "Score more goals than they do – that's probably the easiest way to do it!

"I enjoy these games, and the players do too. You shouldn't have to motivate them for a North London derby – there should be a real pride and passion within to represent this club and play in these games."
