Lawrence Shankland scored twice as Scotland's preparations for the World Cup began with an emphatic 4-1 win over 10-man Curacao at Hampden Park. 

In what was their final match on home soil before departing for North America, Steve Clarke's side had to come from behind to earn their win. 

But they were helped by Jurgen Locadia's first-half red card, with Findlay Curtis, Shankland and Ryan Christie on target to cancel out Tahith Chong's 17th-minute opener. 

Curacao, who are making their World Cup debut this summer, stunned Scotland early on when Chong cut inside of John Souttar before finishing at Craig Gordon's near post. 

However, a moment of madness from Locadia, who led into a late challenge on Aaron Hickey with his elbow, saw him sent off seven minutes before half-time after referee Goga Kikacheishvili upgraded his original decision following a VAR review.

Scotland made their man advantage count on the stroke of half-time through Curtis' precise finish, after he had only just replaced the injured Billy Gilmour three minutes earlier. 

Steve Clarke's side then got themselves in front in the 59th minute when a short corner routine ended with Shankland sweeping Ryan Christie's ball into the box past Eloy Room.  

The new Rangers forward then doubled his and Scotland's tally five minutes later with a pinpoint shot into the bottom-left corner, and the win was sealed by Christie's 81st-minute penalty after Curtis was tripped by Jurien Gaari in the box.

Data Debrief: Scotland sign off in style

Scotland still have one more pre-tournament friendly against Bolivia before their Group C campaign at the World Cup begins against Haiti on June 14, but they gave their supporters something to cheer in Glasgow.

Their win here was their first victory in a friendly at home since beating Denmark 1-0 in March 2016. Scotland had failed to win any of their previous 11 home friendlies, losing eight of those and drawing the other three.

And they were helped by Shankland, who has now scored in consecutive matches for Scotland for the first time.

Curtis, who got his team back level, also became the youngest player to score for his country since Danny Wilson (18y 324d) in November 2010, aged 19 years and 241 days old.

But Scotland were aided by Curacao's dismissal, with Dick Advocaat's side having caused them problems early on. The hosts finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.04 from their 18 shots, 11 of which were on target, to their opponents 0.71 from their nine attempts.
