The Houston Rockets signed starting guard Amen Thompson to a contract extension on Thursday.

No terms were announced, but ESPN said it is a five-year, $208million extension until 2032.

Thompson, taken by Houston with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, is coming off the best season of his young career after topping the league in total minutes played while appearing in 79 games.

He ranked second on the Rockers with 5.3 assists per game and was third in scoring (18.3) and rebounding (7.8).

Thompson led Houston with a 53.4 field-goal percentage and 1.51 steals per game, good for 10th in the NBA.

“Amen represents everything we want our organisation to be about,” Rockets general manager Rafael Stone said.

“He has elite two-way ability, a toughness and the will to outwork his peers, and he competes in every circumstance.

“Year over year, he’s improved in every facet of his game, and we know his best basketball is ahead of him.”

Houston went 52-30 for the second consecutive season in 2025-26 and was eliminated in the first round of the play-offs for the second straight time.
