Relegated Wolves will not give up, claims Bueno

Hugo Bueno has promised Wolves will give their all in their final four Premier League games of the season, despite their fate having been sealed.

Wolves have nothing but pride to play for after their relegation to the second tier was confirmed.

Burnley, who sit 19th, are also already down, and Wolves could overtake the Clarets before the end of the season. Scott Parker's team are three points better off.

However, full-back Bueno is adamant the squad have not given up, and they are aiming to end a dismal campaign on a high note.

Ahead of this weekend's clash with Sunderland, Bueno told Wolves' website: "After the two tough games we played a couple weeks before, to come here and see the stadium full, you know you have to give everything for the fans, for the club, for all of us.

"It's hard at the moment but the thing that we are never going to do is just give up. That's not an option. We have four more games to go and get the best results possible.

"We are building something. Of course, it is hard with all the atmosphere, environment, the situation. It's not easy, but we are training well.

"Every day we wake up and try to be better. Of course, the results are not coming. I think on Saturday [against Tottenham in a 1-0 loss] we showed a better face of us, and we have to keep going like this, but for sure we’re building something."

Sunderland, meanwhile, sit 12th, just four points off sixth place, having enjoyed a fantastic first season back in the Premier League.

The Black Cats, however, have lost their last two games, going down 5-0 at home to Nottingham Forest and 4-3 away at Aston Villa.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Wolves – Joao Gomes

Gomes has been one of Wolves' better performers this term, and the midfielder has been linked with a big-money sale.

This is another chance for Gomes to put himself in the shop window.

Sunderland – Wilson Isidor

No player has played more Premier League games without completing 90 minutes in any of them this season than Isidor (29).

He has been subbed off in all 11 of his starts and come off the bench 18 times.

Isidor could also be on the move this summer. With five league goals, he is the Black Cats' second-highest scorer in the competition.

MATCH PREDICTION: DRAW

Wolves are unbeaten in their last seven home league games against Sunderland (W3 D4). This is the first time they have hosted them since a 0-0 draw in the Championship in December 2017, and the first time in the Premier League since December 2011 (2-1).

Sunderland have won their last two league games against Wolves. They are looking to complete the double over them for the first time since 1949-50, while they last won three in a row against them in March 1937.

Regis Le Bris' team have kept a clean sheet in their last four league games against Wolves, a run stretching back to April 2012. They last had a longer run without conceding against an opponent versus Bradford City, between 1989 and 1999 (seven games).

Wolves have lost all four of their Premier League games against promoted sides this season – only four teams have ever lost five in a single campaign: Ipswich Town (1994-95), Sunderland (2002-03), Leicester City and Southampton (both in 2022-23).

And Wolves have failed to score in a league-high 18 different Premier League games this season. The last team to fail in more were Norwich City in 2021-22 (22), while it is Wolves' third most in a top-flight campaign after 1983-84 (22) and 1981-82 (20).

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

Wolves – 37.6%

Draw – 26.4%

Sunderland – 36%
