Graham Potter is set to oversee Sweden for the next four years after penning a long-term contract as head coach.

Potter, who was sacked by West Ham in September, took charge of Sweden the following month on a short-term contract.

Sweden had lost three of their opening four World Cup qualifiers, and Potter was unable to arrest their dismal form as he suffered a 4-1 defeat to Switzerland in his first game in charge.

A 1-1 draw with Slovenia saw Sweden round out their sorry campaign in bottom spot in Group B, but they still have a chance to qualify thanks to their 2024-25 Nations League placing.

Sweden take on Ukraine in a play-off on March 26. Should Potter's team win that tie, they will face either Poland or Albania for a place in the finals.

Regardless of Sweden's World Cup fate, however, Potter will be in charge until the end of the 2030 World Cup cycle. 

"It's a big day for me and a fantastic opportunity to do something important going forward," said the former Brighton and Chelsea boss.

"I've had a good first time as Swedish national team coach and have enjoyed myself very much. Sweden is a football country with a proud history, with teams that have made it to [major tournaments], which we want to return to."
