The NBA-leading Oklahoma City Thunder will be without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander until after the All-Star break due to an abdominal strain sustained in Tuesday’s win over the Orlando Magic.
The Thunder (40-11) announced the injury Wednesday after Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning league MVP and NBA Finals MVP, sat out the fourth quarter of defending champion Oklahoma City’s easy 128-92 victory.
Gilgeous-Alexander entered Wednesday second in the NBA with 31.8 points per game while also averaging 6.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.31 steals in 49 contests.
The injury will also cause Gilgeous-Alexander to sit out the All-Star Game on February 15 after being selected as a starter.
The Thunder made a deal Wednesday to acquire a point guard with Gilgeous-Alexander sidelined, getting 2024 first-round draft pick Jared McCain from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sustained an abdominal strain and will be re-evaluated following the All-Star break.
