The Utah Jazz announced Thursday that recently acquired forward Jaren Jackson Jr. is expected to sit out the remainder of the season to undergo surgery after a growth was detected in his left knee.

Jackson was acquired from Memphis last week in an eight-player deal, and the Jazz (18-37) said a localised pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) growth was identified in a post-trade physical.

The two-time All-Star averaged 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.51 blocks in 45 games with the Grizzlies this season.

The 2022-23 NBA Defensive Player of the Year played in three games for the Jazz (18-37) and averaged 22.3 points, 4.3 boards and 2.7 assists.

Drafted fourth overall by Memphis in 2018, Jackson has twice been named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team and is averaging 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.86 blocks in 455 career games.
