The San Antonio Spurs registered their 15th win in 16 games on Sunday with a 145-120 rout of the Houston Rockets in a meeting of the top two teams in the Southwest Division.
Victor Wembanyama had 29 points, Stephon Castle scored 23, De’Aaron Fox chipped in 20 points and 10 assists and reserve Keldon Johnson added 20 points as division-leading San Antonio improved to 47-17.
“Teams have a hard time figuring us out,” Wembanyama said. “Everybody can hit shots from everywhere on the court, so we have answers for anybody.”
The Spurs pulled within 2 ½ games of the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the Western Conference and increased their lead to 7 ½ games over Houston (39-24) in the Southwest.
The Rockets held a one-point lead after the first quarter, but it was all San Antonio the rest of the way as the Spurs scored their most points in regulation since beating the Milwaukee Bucks 146-125 on May 10, 2021.
Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson each had 23 points for the Rockets, who fell one-half game behind the Minnesota Timberwolves for third place in the West.

Surging Heat roll past struggling Pistons
The Miami Heat extended their winning streak to five games and handed the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons a fourth straight loss with an easy 121-110 victory.
Miami (36-29) grabbed control early and led by 25 points in the second quarter before cruising to their eighth win in 10 contests.
Tyler Herro had 25 points and Bam Adebayo added 24 with nine rebounds and six assists for the Heat, who remained percentage points behind the first-place Orlando Magic in the Southeast Division.
Adebayo pushed his career total to 10,001 points, joining Dwyane Wade (21,556) as the only players in Miami history to score 10,000.
Cade Cunningham contributed 26 points and 10 assists and Jalen Duren scored 24 as the Pistons (45-18) had their lead in the East cut to 2 ½ games over the Boston Celtics.
“It’s the NBA, right? And you look at the season, it's long,” Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff said.
“Everybody goes through difficult times or goes through a little bit of a rut. And we just found ours right now. And again, we've got plenty of time left to do what we got to do.
"Boston, obviously, is a good team. But we’re not concerned about Boston.”

Brown, Tatum lead Celtics past Cavaliers
Jaylen Brown had 23 points, nine rebounds and eight assists and Jayson Tatum scored 20 points in 27 minutes as the Celtics beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-98 in a matchup of Eastern Conference contenders.
Payton Pritchard added 18 points and Baylor Scheierman had 16 points and 10 boards as Boston (43-21) won for the 14th time in 17 contests to pull 2 ½ games back of the East-leading Detroit Pistons and four clear of the fourth-place Cavaliers (39-25).
Tatum got off to a sizzling start in his second game back from a torn right Achilles, scoring 12 first-quarter points. The six-time All-Star also came up clutch down the stretch with a deep three-pointer with 1:59 to play to put the Celtics up by 12 points.
“Today felt a lot more normal, just from a preparation standpoint in this league,” Tatum said. “It felt like being back in the flow again."
Boston took a 56-36 lead at half-time before the Cavaliers clawed back and cut the deficit to single digits midway through the fourth quarter, but the Celtics held on to snap Cleveland's season-high seven-game home winning streak.
