LeBron James plans to continue his career with the Philadelphia 76ers.

James made the announcement on social media on Friday, writing, "I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energise a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time."

He also said that he had thought his career was over after the 2025-26 season ended, but he still wants to "compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship."

He wrote, "I'm not going for money," and ESPN has reported he is signing a two-year, $8million deal with a player option.

James informed the Los Angeles Lakers on June 30 that he would not return to the franchise and would sign with another team for the 2026-27 season.

Despite being 41 years old, the future Hall of Famer is still playing at a high level.

In his 23rd pro season in 2025-26, James was named to his 22nd NBA All-Star Game, with averages of 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds in 60 contests.

The 76ers finished in seventh place in the Eastern Conference last season with a 45-37 record and won in the Play-In tournament before upsetting the second-seeded Boston Celtics in seven games in a first-round play-off series. Philadelphia was then swept by the eventual champion New York Knicks in the conference semi-finals.
