The New York Knicks will bring their dominant postseason run to the Eastern Conference finals after routing the Philadelphia 76ers 144-114 on Sunday to sweep the semi-final series and return to the conference finals for the second straight year.
New York put on a three-point shooting display, tying an NBA play-off record with 25 threes.
The Knicks set a record with 11 threes in the first quarter, including four straight by Miles McBride in a 1:22 span, and knocked down 18 shots from beyond the arc in the first half to take an 81-57 lead at the break.
McBride – who started for the second straight game in place of OG Anunoby (hamstring) – hit seven threes and scored 25, Jalen Brunson buried six shots from deep and had 22 points, and Josh Hart and Landry Shamet each added four three-pointers.
Third-seeded New York has won seven in a row in the postseason after falling behind 2-1 in the first round against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Knicks outscored Atlanta and Philadelphia by an average of 26.4 points over those seven wins while shooting 54.8 per cent from the field and 43.2 per cent from three-point range.
They closed out the first round with a 51-point victory over the Hawks in Game 6.
New York, which lost to the Indiana Pacers in six games in last season’s East finals, will next face either the top-seeded Detroit Pistons or No. 4 seed Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Pistons hold a 2-1 lead in that semi-final series.
The 76ers, meanwhile, saw their season come to a crashing halt after advancing out of the NBA Play-In Tournament and beating the second-seeded Boston Celtics in the first round while becoming the 14th team in NBA history to rally from a 3-1 series deficit.
Two of Philadelphia’s four defeats against the Knicks came by at least 30 points, and the 76ers combined to shoot 17 of 67 (25.4 per cent) from three-point range over the last two games in the series.

Timberwolves pull even with Spurs after Wembanyama ejected
The Minnesota Timberwolves took advantage of Victor Wembanyama’s early ejection to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 114-109 and even the Western Conference semi-final series at two games apiece.
Wembanyama had 39 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in Friday’s 115-108 win that gave second-seeded San Antonio a 2-1 lead in the series, but he was ejected early in the second quarter of Game 4 for receiving a Flagrant 2 foul after elbowing Minnesota’s Naz Reid above the neck.
The Spurs played well without the NBA Defensive Player of the Year and MVP finalist, taking an 84-80 lead after three quarters, but they missed Wembanyama in the fourth and were outscored 34-25.
Anthony Edwards scored 16 of Minnesota’s 34 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 36, Reid had 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists off the bench, and Rudy Gobert scored 11 to go along with 13 boards and four assists.
De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper both had 24 points and Stephon Castle scored 20 for the Spurs, who will host sixth-seeded Minnesota in Game 5 on Tuesday.
