Harry Maguire is "shocked and gutted" after revealing he has been left out of England's 2026 World Cup squad.
Thomas Tuchel will announce his final 26-man squad on Friday, though Maguire announced the decision to leave him out of the team on social media on Thursday.
Maguire has made 66 appearances for England, most recently coming off the bench against Japan in March, when he also wore the armband.
The centre-back has also featured 12 times at the World Cup for the Three Lions, helping them finish fourth in 2018 and reach the quarter-finals in 2022.
The 33-year-old has made the joint-seventh most appearances at World Cup finals for England, behind Peter Shilton (17), Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Ashley Cole, Terry Butcher (all 14) and David Beckham (13).
And Maguire has played a key role in Manchester United's turnaround in form under Michael Carrick.
Since his appointment of the interim head coach, Maguire has won the second-most duels of any United player (80), the most aerial duels (43) and the joint-third most tackles (15).
Maguire said on social media: "I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I've had.

According to reports, Chelsea's Levi Colwill, who has made just three appearances for the Blues this season after returning from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, is set to be named in the squad.
Defenders Fikayo Tomori and Luke Shaw are both set to miss out, along with Manchester City's Phil Foden.
England will face Croatia in their group stage opener on June 17, before fixtures against Ghana and Panama in Group L.
