Chris DeMarco lasted exactly 11 months as coach of the New York Liberty.
The Liberty fired DeMarco on Tuesday after he led the team to a 26-18 record in his one season at the helm.
New York hired DeMarco on Dec. 3, 2025, with no prior WNBA experience after he spent 14 seasons with the NBA's Golden State Warriors. He began as a scout with the Warriors and was then promoted to the director of player development before serving as an assistant coach for 11 seasons, helping Golden State win four NBA titles.
This past WNBA season, the Liberty finished eighth and swept the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx in the first round, but they were then eliminated by the Atlanta Dream in three games.
DeMarco took over for Sandy Brondello, who led New York to the WNBA title in 2024 but was let go last September after the team was ousted by the Phoenix Mercury in the opening round of the WNBA play-offs.
The Liberty will now be looking for their third coach in as many seasons.
Thank you, Coach DeMarco. https://t.co/tbxe0MDInT
