Leeds United 3-1 Burnley: Farke's men stride closer to safety

Leeds United defeated Burnley 3-1 to put themselves on the brink of retaining their Premier League status for another season.

Goals from Anton Stach, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin had Elland Road rocking on Friday, and Leeds can now confirm their safety with a win against Tottenham in their next match.

Stach, who made his first start following an ankle injury, got things underway after eight minutes as he was afforded too much space when receiving Jaka Bijol's pass and picked out the bottom-right corner.

Daniel Farke's side failed to build on their fast start in the first half, but were back on the front foot after the break. Okafor added a second for the home side, sweeping in from Jayden Bogle's cross after the full-back was found by Calvert-Lewin's backheel.

The England international then scored himself four minutes later, reacting fastest to a rebound in the six-yard box after Ao Tanaka's strike was parried by Martin Dubravka.

Moments after Lucas Pires had a close-range goal disallowed for offside, Loum Tchaouna scored a consolation for the Clarets in the 71st minute, but it was not enough to spark a comeback for the already relegated side.

Data Debrief: Stach back with a bang

It was a well-deserved victory for Leeds, who created 1.68 expected goals (xG) from 18 shots to Burnley's 0.53 from nine attempts, and Stach was at the heart of things for the home side.

On his first start since April 5, the German midfielder led the match in both shots (five) and chances created (three), while also winning 100% of his duels (6/6) before being substituted off in the 72nd minute.

Four of Stach's five Premier League goals for Leeds have been scored from outside the box – no player has more from range in the competition this term, with Stach levelling Antoine Semenyo and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Leeds now have 43 points in the Premier League this season (W10 D13 L12) – a tally no side has ever been relegated with in a 38-game Premier League season.
