Harry Kane is taking things one game at a time as he attempts to overhaul Robert Lewandowski's single-season Bundesliga goal record, having scored his 500th career goal on Saturday.
Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich beat Werder Bremen 3-0 to restore their six-point lead over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga, with Leon Goretzka also on target.
The England captain's second goal – a precise effort from outside the area – was the 500th of his senior career for club and country.
With his first strike against Werder coming from a penalty, he has now scored exactly 100 of his career goals from the spot, while he has also passed 300 goals in Europe's top five leagues (now 301).
Kane has achieved that latter feat in 405 matches in the Premier League and the Bundesliga, and this season has been his most prolific in terms of his minutes-per-goal ratio (one goal every 68 minutes).
Kane's double also inched him ever-closer to another landmark, as he chases the single-season Bundesliga goal record.
Robert Lewandowski's tally of 41 goals in 2020-21 remains the all-time high, and Kane already has 26 goals in 22 matches this campaign.
His conversion rate (30.6%) and shooting accuracy (78.1%) in 2025-26 are both better than the figures managed by Lewandowski in his record-breaking season (29.9% and 58.6% respectively).
Asked about the record after Saturday's win, Kane said: "Anything is possible, but there's still a long way to go. It's an unbelievable record. I'm in a good moment right now.
"It's nice to help the team. We'll see where I am when we get to April. I'll start to think about it by then. But right now, it's just about the next one."

But head coach Vincent Kompany believes Kane would gladly forgo the record to win the second league title of his career.
"I assume that winning the title is much more important for him than the record," Kompany said in his post-match press conference.
"But maybe I'm wrong because I was a defender, not a striker! He's Harry Kane, he has always and will always score goals."
Kompany withdrew goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in favour of Jonas Urbig at half-time, and sporting director Christoph Freund has confirmed that was a precautionary move after the 39-year-old complained of discomfort.
Freund told Sky Sports: "He has a slight tightness. It was a precautionary measure, we didn't want to risk anything. It shouldn't be anything bad."
