Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was arrested early Saturday morning near Houston for a misdemeanour firearms offence, according to Harris County District records.
The charges stated that Harden was pulled over in a vehicle when police spotted a gun not properly secured in a holster.
Harden was released shortly after being booked after paying $100 bond.
“The Cleveland Cavaliers are aware of the arrest of James Harden this morning and are in the process of gathering additional information,” the team said in a statement.
“We are in contact with James and his representation and will continue to monitor developments as they become available. At this time, we will have no further comment.”
Harden, 36, was acquired midseason in a blockbuster trade that sent Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Harden’s future with the Cavaliers is at a crossroads this offseason, with him facing a decision on a $42million player option before the June 29 deadline.
Harden could also decline his player option, either allowing him to sign a multi-year deal with the Cavaliers or making him an unrestricted free agent.
