'It's the club of my dreams' – Vinicius to sign Real Madrid extension 'at the right time'

Vinicius Junior revealed that he intends to put pen to paper on a new deal with Real Madrid "at the right time", expressing his desire to remain at the club "for many years".

Vinicius has been in blistering form since the turn of the year, scoring 12 times in 20 matches in all competitions, the joint-most of any LaLiga player in 2026 (level with Raphinha).

The 25-year-old's 26 goal contributions are also second only to Kylian Mbappe's 43 for Los Blancos this season since the Club World Cup, though Vinicius had struggled earlier in the campaign.

During Xabi Alonso's time at the club, the Brazilian managed just seven goals and eight assists in 33 matches in all competitions, 29 of which came from the start.

That saw his future with Madrid questioned, with his contract due to expire in June 2027, but he has been a player reborn under Alvaro Arbeloa.

"Let's hope I can stay here for a long time," Vinícius told reporters when asked about his contract situation ahead of their Champions League quarter-final with Bayern Munich.

"I still have a year left, we're calm. I have the confidence of the president [Florentino Perez], and we're calm about what we want.

"At the right time, we'll do the renewal, and I'll be here a long time. It's the club of my dreams. I'm happy here, and I want to be here for many years."

Since joining the club from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has been an integral part of Madrid's squad, helping them win 14 major honours, which include two Champions Leagues.

In addition, only Karim Benzema (215) has recorded more goal involvements than Vinicius' 207 in that time, while he also tops the metrics for dribbles completed (905) and chances created (575) among LaLiga players over that eight-year period.

However, he lost his status as an almost certain starter under Alonso in the first half of the 2025-26 season.

Vinicius was even whistled at by fans after Alonso was dismissed, though it was reported that he was one of the senior players who had been unhappy with the former Bayer Leverkusen boss' management style.

"It was a difficult moment," Vinicius added. "We played a lot of games, but I got a few minutes. Each coach has his own methods; I couldn't connect with what [Alonso] wanted.

"It was a moment for learning, I learnt a lot, the players helped me a lot. I could reflect a lot, improve as a person, and I have a fantastic connection with Arbeloa."
