Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is determined to "let my game do the talking" in the MVP race after helping the Oklahoma City Thunder to a third straight win.

The Thunder prevailed 114-110 in overtime against the Detroit Pistons in a match-up of the two division leaders, with Gilgeous-Alexander proving the difference.

He scored eight of his 47 points in the extra period and went 12-of-19 from the field while making 21 of his 25 attempts from the free throw line.

Gilgeous-Alexander is currently the favourite to repeat as the league's MVP, with Victor Wembanyama, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic also in the conversation.

But the 27-year-old refused to weigh in on that himself, saying: "No, I'm good. Thanks for asking, though.

"Yeah, I'm good. I let my game do the talking.

"I think it's good for the league. I think it's good chatter. It gives people something to talk about. There's a lot of good players in this league and a lot of guys in the conversation because of that."

The Thunder have a league-best record of 60-16 after becoming the first team to reach 60 wins, improving to 15-1 in their last 16 games.

Gilgeous-Alexander ranks second in the NBA in scoring at 31.6 points per game, trailing only Luka Doncic, while averaging a career-high 6.5 assists per game.

Head coach Mark Daigneault was also impressed with how Gilgeous-Alexander overcame a "choppy" start to the game to lead the charge at the end.

"He has the ability to kind of labor in a game and then, snap of the fingers, he's like back in rhythm," Daigneault said.

"That's what happened in the fourth. When he went back in there, he had a different pop with his playmaking and his scoring.  

"And there's a lot of guys that are great players but have bad games. He can work himself through a game with the best of them."
