'I have one more year' – Guardiola hints at Man City stay

Pep Guardiola has issued his strongest hint yet that he will remain at Manchester City next season, noting he has one more year to go on his contract.

City face Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday, in what will be their 24th game at Wembley Stadium since Guardiola took charge 10 years ago.

Guardiola has won 19 trophies during his time at the club – six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cups, three Community Shields, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Following March's EFL Cup final victory over Arsenal, Guardiola's team could win both domestic cups in a single season for the second time, having previously done so when they won the domestic treble in 2018-19.

It would be the sixth instance of a team achieving that feat (also Arsenal in 1992-93, Liverpool in 2000-01 and 2021-22 and Chelsea in 2006-07), but no club has done so twice under the same manager.

Guardiola's long-term future at the Etihad Stadium has been called into doubt, despite him penning a contract to run until 2027 back in November 2024.

Amid rumours he could step down early, Guardiola was asked on Friday whether Saturday's final could be his last in charge of City.

He responded: "No way. I have one more year [on my] contract."

City are the first team to play in four consecutive FA Cup finals, beating Manchester United in 2023 before losing to the Red Devils in 2024 and Crystal Palace in 2025.

Asked if his reign was the definition of greatness, Guardiola responded: "Yeah, of course, 19 titles in 10 years is not bad.

"They know they don't need to wait until I'm leaving, they know I have been fun. So 19 titles – fighting for 20 in 10 years – it's not bad, honestly."

Since the 2016-17 season, the two teams to win the most games in the FA Cup are City (45) and Chelsea (37), while they have also scored the most goals (City 159, Chelsea 111) and kept the most clean sheets (City 28, Chelsea 26) in that time.

City have won 21 of their last 23 matches in the FA Cup, with their only defeats in that time coming in the 2024 and 2025 finals.
