Heidenheim 2-4 Bayern Munich: Diaz and Brown secure late comeback win

Luis Diaz and Nathaniel Brown both scored late goals to ensure Bayern Munich ended pre-season with a 4-2 friendly win over Heidenheim.

The hosts had twice taken the lead, but Vincent Kompany's side introduced some of their big guns late on to help them get over the line.

Just five minutes in, Bara Sapoko Ndiaye attempted to dig Bayern out of trouble around halfway, but he instead sent the ball straight to Yannik Wagner, who raced the length of the half before coolly slotting past Jonas Urbig to give Heidenheim a dream start.

Wagner then worked Urbig from a tight angle shortly after and should have at least tested the goalkeeper 20 minutes in, but he dragged well wide.

That opened the door for Felipe Chavez to equalise 25 minutes in; after winning a free-kick just outside the box, he then bent the set-piece into the top-right corner.

Heidenheim regained their lead on the stroke of half-time, though, with Julian Niehues putting his laces through a volley from the edge of the box after Bayern failed to clear a corner.

Just two minutes into the second half, Bayern were back on level terms. Niehues brought down Tim Binder, and Arijon Ibrahimovic coolly converted from 12 yards.

And Bayern only got stronger from there. Michael Olise's trickery down the right opened up the space for him to tee up Diaz, who emphatically finished from close range 12 minutes from time.

Brown then capped the performance in the 83rd minute, dancing his way through a crowded box to open up some space and send his low strike past Thomas Dahne.

Kompany's men made to work in final pre-season warm-up

Kompany said his main aim for this friendly was to walk away without any more injuries, and he was largely successful, though there was cause for concern after Jamal Musiala was forced off just minutes after his introduction. This comes just days after he collapsed on the pitch during a win over RB Leipzig.

They were struggling to cope with Heidenheim's threat on the counter-attack in the first half, with the hosts getting four of their six attempts on target, and Wagner could easily have doubled his tally.

But Bayern eventually finished with 14 shots, helped by the introductions of Harry Kane, Olise and Diaz, with the former pair making their first appearances since the World Cup.

They both pushed for a late goal to add even more gloss to the scoreline, with Dahne making a sharp save to deny Olise before Kane blazed an easy chance over.

But Kompany will be largely pleased with what he has seen, as Bayern now turn their attention to the DFL-Supercup against Borussia Dortmund this weekend.
