Tottenham are "desperate to win games" as they look to end their recent Premier League slump, Thomas Frank claimed.

Spurs are yet to win a top-flight match in 2026, going winless in their last seven games (D4 L3).

It is their third such run since the start of 2024-25; previously, they had not gone as many matches without a win since May-October 2008 (a run of nine).

And their 2-0 loss to Manchester United, coupled with other results over the weekend, saw Spurs drop down to 15th in the table, just six points above the relegation zone.

Frank remains optimistic, citing promising recent performances, but conceded Spurs needed to get back to winning ways with Newcastle United next up on Tuesday.

"There's no doubt we are desperate to win games, desperate," Frank said. "And I am focusing on Newcastle – that's a great opportunity ahead of us against a good team.

"That's the main thing. Can we go out there and get three points? That will be very good, and then climb from there and look forward, and that's the main focus.

"I think we have. Of course, there's no doubt that a lot of players are out, that, of course, never helps.

"But I think I put a very competitive team out against Manchester United, and I think we looked very good for the first 30 minutes [before Cristian Romero was sent off]."

Romero received his marching orders in the 27th minute at Old Trafford for a late tackle on Casemiro.

The Spurs captain became the first player to be sent off twice in the Premier League this season, while it was his fourth in the competition since moving to north London in 2021, the most of any player during this period.

"For me, I think he is a leader. He is a young leader," Frank said of Romero. "He's learning every day.

"I've said I used the example when I was 30 years old. I thought I was on top of the world, but I was no way near the level I am today in terms of leadership and understanding things.

"And then when you have a player that's playing with so much passion and aggression, things like that can happen.

"That's not to say he shouldn't learn from it, of course, he needs learn from it, going forward."
