Stephen Curry scored a season-high 44 points, rookie Yaxel Lendeborg had 26 and the Golden State Warriors held on Wednesday night for a 119-114 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, who were without injured guard Anthony Edwards.

The Warriors have won two straight after opening 0-3, while Minnesota has dropped two in a row after starting 3-0.

Wednesday was the first test for Minnesota to see how its lineup would look without Edwards. The Timberwolves announced Tuesday that Edwards would miss extended time after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Edwards averaged 33.3 points through Minnesota's first four games.

Curry shot 11 of 27, including six 3-pointers, and was 16 of 16 on free throws. He also had eight rebounds and six assists.

After trailing by 24, the Timberwolves climbed back in the fourth quarter thanks to Jaden McDaniels and Jonathan Kuminga. Trailing 116-112, Minnesota had multiple chances to make it a one-possession game, but McDaniels missed two shots from deep in the final minute.

Wembanyama powers Spurs to OT win

Victor Wembanyama had 36 points and 14 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the short-handed Utah Jazz 117-111 in overtime.

Devin Vassell scored 17 of his 21 points after halftime to give the Spurs (3-2) a second option that was missing early on as Utah (1-4) led by as many as 11.

Keyonte George had a season-high 31 points but seemed gassed at the end of regulation and overtime carrying the Jazz offence. Ace Bailey added 19 points and rookie Darryn Peterson scored 18 but didn't play down the stretch or in overtime.

Brice Sensabaugh, who scored 16 points, opened overtime with a 3-pointer for the Jazz, but the Spurs responded with a 12-0 run to secure their third straight win.

The Jazz were playing without three of their big men starters. Jaren Jackson has a torn MCL in his right knee, Lauri Markkanen has a right wrist sprain and Jusuf Nurkic has yet to play this season with a foot injury.

Heat down Hawks for first win

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 24 points and 18 rebounds in his first victory with the Heat, leading Miami over the Atlanta Hawks 129-117.

Bam Adebayo also had 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Heat, who lost their first four games after acquiring Antetokounmpo from Milwaukee in the offseason.

Adebayo passed Udonis Haslem to become the Heat’s all-time leader in rebounds. Haslem had 5,791 rebounds in his 20-season career with the Heat; Adebayo now has 5,794.

Andrew Wiggins scored 18 points and Pelle Larsson had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Heat, who shot 53% from the field and had a whopping 70 points in the paint.

Rookie Kingston Flemings and Nickeil Alexander-Walker each scored 23 points for the Hawks, who have dropped three in a row after opening the season with consecutive wins. Jalen Johnson shot just 4 for 12 and finished with 12 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds.
