Carrick not 'chasing' answers about Man Utd future

Michael Carrick insisted he is not "chasing" an answer to his future at Manchester United as his side prepare to face Brentford in the Premier League on Monday.

Carrick was brought in as Ruben Amorim's replacement in January until the end of the season and has put United in a prime position to qualify for the Champions League.

United have lost just twice since Carrick took over (W8 D2), but have also beaten Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea in that time.

They sit third in the Premier League table, eight points clear of sixth-place Brighton with five games left to play, and one in hand over the Seagulls.

Since Carrick took over, only league leaders City (27) have gained more points than United's 26, while only Arsenal (23) have bettered their 22 goals scored.

United are still yet to make a decision over the manager for next season, and though Carrick has been heavily tipped for the full-time job, he is not looking past the current campaign.

"I've said it many times, I enjoy being here, I enjoy the role I'm in," Carrick said.

"We've had some good results, and we're in decent shape. We still want to keep improving, there's layers that we want to get to, really. I'll see.

"I keep saying the same things every week. There's only so much I can say in terms of that, but I've said it many times.

"Again, I enjoy being here, I love being here. It's a real privilege to be in the position I am, but thriving with the responsibility that we've got."

Pushed about when he expected clarity, Carrick added: "I'm not sure, to be honest.

"Genuinely, it's not something in terms of deadlines that I'm really chasing. I think it'll become clear when it's going to become clear.

"I'm here at the moment to help the team and help the club get results.

"At the moment, we're doing all right. We can keep pushing and getting better, so, really, that's genuinely all I'm focused on right now."

United have lost their last two league games against Brentford, more than they had in their previous 11 (W8 D2 L1).

However, they have not suffered consecutive home defeats in the Premier League since May last year; they lost 2-1 to Leeds United last time out at Old Trafford.
