Chelsea have announced that experienced defender Lucy Bronze has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will keep her at the club until 2027. 

Bronze, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona ahead of the 2024-25 season, said her decision came down to wanting to be involved in the Blues' "exciting" future. 

The 32-year-old has made 56 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, scoring five goals and helping the club win four major honours over the last two seasons. 

She won the Women's Super League in her first campaign at Chelsea, along with the FA Cup and League Cup. She won the latter competition again in 2025-26.

The England international made 13 appearances in the WSL last season as Chelsea were unable to defend their title, with Bronze's former club Manchester City coming out on top. 

"I feel like this is the right thing for me at this time," Bronze told Chelsea's official club website.

"I've really enjoyed the last two years being at Chelsea and back in England, and I feel like we're in a place now where we're moving forward as a club.

"Added to the move to Stamford Bridge [where Chelsea will play all their WSL home games starting next season], it's a really exciting time to be part of the team."

Bronze's renewal comes after striker Sam Kerr rejoined Gotham FC upon the expiry of her contract, after six successful years with Chelsea.

Salma Paralluelo, who left Barcelona earlier this week, is reportedly of interest to the Blues, though Arsenal and Lyon are also believed to be in the hunt for the Spaniard.
