Barcelona 5-2 Rayo Vallecano: Raphinha and Yamal double up in Camp Nou rout

Lamine Yamal opened his account for the 2026-27 season in style with a sublime double in Barcelona's 5-2 rout of Rayo Vallecano.

Yamal had not managed to score in either of Barca's opening two LaLiga fixtures, but the 19-year-old superstar ended his wait with a pair of stunners on Monday.

However, Barca did not have it all their own way at Camp Nou, where Raphinha also doubled up.

Rayo, who finished an impressive eighth last season but are winless so far this campaign, took a surprise lead when Sergio Camello brilliantly steered home from Alvaro Garcia's cutback in the 12th minute.

Barca were level seven minutes later, though, with Raphinha's clever footwork seeing him get the better of his marker before he fired in an equaliser.

Yamal then came to the fore with a trademark left-footed strike into the top-right corner from the edge of the box.

Joules Kounde had a goal disallowed for offside, but Barca did go 3-1 up early in the second half when Florian Lejeune turned into his own net.

Yet Camello's second – a smart header from Unai Lopez's corner – reduced the arrears. Barca, though, restored their two-goal cushion when Anthony Gordon's backheel teed up Raphinha to slam a low finish across Rayo goalkeeper Dani Cardenas.

Yamal then capped off a fine win for the reigning champions late on, drilling another long-range strike into the corner.

Yamal makes more history

It had been a slow start to the season by Yamal's extraordinary standards, but he turned on the style here, and his first goal marked yet another record for this remarkable winger.

That strike was Yamal's 50th for Barca, making him the youngest player from any team in the five major leagues, at the age of 19 years and 49 days, to reach the milestone.

Yamal had a game-leading six shots, while he also had 16 touches in the opposition area, which was seven more than any other player (ahead of Gordon, with nine).

The teenager also created a whopping seven chances, completed seven of 11 dribbles and won 11 out of 18 duels.

Raphinha, meanwhile, is already well on his way to putting an injury-hit 2025-26 campaign behind him.

The Brazil forward is the first player to score five goals across his team's first three fixtures in a LaLiga season since Barca great Lionel Messi did so in 2017-18.

Hansi Flick's team had 26 shots and generated 2.83 expected goals, while they have netted 12 times already this term. Their attack looks close to unstoppable.
