Diego Simeone is determined to give Antoine Griezmann "the recognition he deserves" during the Frenchman's final Atletico Madrid home game on Sunday.

Atleti returned to winning ways ahead of Griezmann's home farewell, defeating Osasuna 2-1 on Tuesday.

Ademola Lookman's penalty opened the scoring before Alexander Sorloth added a second, though Marcos Llorente's red card set up a nervy finish at Estadio El Sadar.

Sorloth has scored six headers in 30 matches in 2026 across all competitions, the highest tally of any player in Europe's five major leagues.

But despite Kike Barja's stoppage-time goal for Osasuna, Atleti held on for victory, though their Champions League qualification had already been sealed.

Griezmann played the full 90 minutes, doing so for the first time since their Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal, but did not register a single shot.

Simeone praised Atleti's performance against Osasuna, but hopes Griezmann will receive a proper send-off against Girona at the Metropolitano this weekend.

"The other day we weren't as decisive as we were [against Osasuna]. The opponent was under pressure; it's always tough here, lots of possession in the box, a feeling of penalty calls that creates doubts for the referees.

"But every time we managed to string together four passes, we created scoring opportunities.

"We got the win we wanted, and it gives us a boost for Antoine's farewell.

"Hopefully, the fans will give him the recognition he deserves. We have had a genius with us for many years, and hopefully, we can give him a great send-off."

Griezmann has scored 14 goals and provided six assists in 54 games for Atleti across all competitions this season (not including the Club World Cup).

He has played the joint-most games for the club in 2025-26 (level with Koke), while only Julian Alvarez (29) and Sorloth (21) have directly contributed to more goals.
