A'ja Wilson becomes WNBA’s fastest to 6K points

A’ja Wilson scored 34 points and reached the 6,000-point milestone faster than any play in WNBA history as the Las Vegas Aces stayed hot with a 101-91 win over the Seattle Storm on Monday.

The four-time league MVP reached the 6,000-point mark in her 278th career game. Diana Taurasi previously held the record at 291 games. Wilson also had 12 rebounds, nine assists and three blocked shots. Jackie Young added 29 points as the Aces improved to 8-3.

Playing against her former team, Jewell Loyd scored five points on 2-for-7 shooting. Dominique Malonga scored a team-high 17 points for Seattle, who fell to 3-10 overall and 1-6 on the road this season.

 

Liberty move to 3-0 in Commissioner’s Cup

Breanna Stewart scored 28 points as the New York Liberty defeated the Connecticut Sun 89-80 on Monday to improve to 3-0 in WNBA Commissioner’s Cup action and post their fifth consecutive victory.

Stewart added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals, Han Xu had 14 points, six boards and two blocks, and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton contributed 11 points and five rebounds for the Liberty (8-4).

New York leads the Eastern Conference standings of the Commissioner’s Cup, the league’s annual in-season competition that features a 49-game schedule from June 1-17.

The teams with the top record from each conference in the tournament will face off in the championship game on June 30.

The Liberty won the Commissioner’s Cup in 2023 before losing to the Minnesota Lynx in the title game the following season.

WNBA-worst Connecticut (2-11) got 15 points from Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Aaliyah Edwards in falling to 0-3 in the tournament. The Sun lost to the Seattle Storm in the championship game of the inaugural Commissioner’s Cup in 2021.

Fever 78, Mystics 76

Caitlin Clark nailed a three-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift Indiana (6-5) over Washington (4-6).

The Mystics trailed by 17 points in the third quarter and tallied to take a one-point lead on a pair of free throws by Sonia Citron with 4.3 seconds to go before Clark’s clutch three.

Clark had 19 points and five assists, Kelsey Mitchell scored 15 and Aliyah Boston added 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks for defending Commissioner’s Cup champion Indiana.

The Fever moved to 2-1 in the East standings of the competition, and the Mystics fell to 1-2. Michaela Onyenwere led the way with 17 points for Washington.
