The Philadelphia 76ers will not have Joel Embiid in the line-up for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals against the New York Knicks on Wednesday because of ankle and hip injuries.
Embiid reportedly did not take part in Philadelphia’s morning shootaround due to soreness in his ankle and hip, leaving the 76ers without the former NBA MVP as they attempt to avoid an 0-2 deficit in the series.
The oft-injured Embiid missed the first three games of the team’s first-round series against the Boston Celtics before returning just 17 days after undergoing an appendectomy.
He averaged 28 points, nine rebounds and seven assists over the last four games against Boston to help Philadelphia become the 14th team in NBA history to rally from a 3-1 series deficit.
In Monday’s Game 1 against the Knicks, however, Embiid was held to 14 points on 3-of-11 shooting while grabbing four boards and registering one assist as New York rolled to a 137-98 victory.
Adem Bona started the first three games against the Celtics but wasn’t much of a factor as the Nigerian center totalled 13 points and 11 rebounds in those contests.
